If you didn't know already I'm  completely, utterly obsessed with tahini. As I am hummus, surprise surprise. Tahini is traditionally is used with chickpeas herbs & spices in order to make the god send that is hummus.

Many people ask me, what the hell even is tahini? It's a paste similar to peanut and almond butter however it's made from sesame seeds rather than nuts (perfect if you're allergic!) and is used a lot in middle eastern cuisines. It's a great source of health fats and contains lots of vitamains and nutrients such as vitamin B and E, calcium and zinc.

What a lot of people don't realise is just how versatile tahini actually is! It can be used in a LOT more ways that just hummus, sweet and savory and various dishes. I use it in absolutely everything!
So if you've got a jar of tahini lingering or are wondering what to do with it, don't let it go to waste... Here are my favourite ways to us tahini...

Tahini is a brilliant base for any dressing or sauce in addition to a salad or meal. It works well with just about any vinegar's, herbs and spices. I love mixing with apple cider vinegar and lemon for the perfect zingy twist. Drizzle over your veggies and enjoy!

Adding tahini to your soups and stews is great for giving your dishes an extra boost of flavour. Not only that it works as a brilliant thickener too! Add it to any soup or stew or even chilli and you'll be surprised at just how comforting and creamy it makes it.

Stir Fries

Mixing tahini with tamari/soy sauce is the perfect combination for a stirfry fry sauce. Forget the shop bought sauces and whiz up it up and add to your usual stir fried veggies and noodles!

Dip for Veggies

Fancy a quick snack? Try dipping chopped veggies into tahini or drizzling over apple and banana in place of peanut butter. Add some lemon juice, salt and pepper and a little hot sauce for an extra twist.

Many smoothie recpies call for adding peanut or almond butter however tahini can be just as delicious. Try adding tahini to your morning smoothie for nutty flavour and extra nutritional benefits. Blend with frozen banana, blueberries, spinach, almond milk and a scoop of protein powder for the perfect morning energy boost.

Stir into Porridge

Like all nut butters tahini is amazing stirred into a big bowl of oats. Like nut butters it's not only absolutely delicious but transforms your oats to the perfect creamy consistency. Paired with some banana slices and strawberries it's the perfect combination for a healthy, comforting start to your day.
