Halloween Superfood Series - Sugar & Spice and All Things Nice Popcorn

Yes, I'm the crazy lay who's already started the Christmas film marathons (common who doesn't like Elf?) Which means getting curled up on the couch with a big cup of tea and loads of snacks. this obviously means one thing... Popcorn! Yes, whoever got the idea of pairing a good movie with a massive bowl of popcorn was an absolute genius.

What I love about popcorn it's so customisable and can actually be pretty damn healthy for you! It's only the way people usually consume it that isn't, usually popcorn in lathered butter, chemicals, sugars and salt however making your own popcorn at home and making a few tweaks is actually really easy, quite satisfying and yummier I think! This means you can make it to whatever you fancy and enjoy your popcorn guilt free!

So lets get making our own popcorn!!!!

Here I've made two varieties of popcorn, sweet and savoury, so you can whip up exactly what you're craving...

The first is a Spicy chilli popcorn which is perfect if you're fancying something a lil hot on your tongue! It's great if you're a spicy lover like myself and looking for that extra kick. Drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, it's perfectly spiced and salty coated with the blend of cumin and chilli making way too addictive.

The second is a Sweet cinnamon popcorn for all you with that cheeky sweet tooth. I've used a blend of coconut oil rather than butter, stevia rather than sugar, cinnamon for that comforting spice and a pinch of salt for extra flavour. Honestly this popcorn is my weakness. The batch was gone in under an hour. Opps.

Once you have your popcorn popped you can go a little crazy with experimenting! You may be pleasantly surprised. Try mixing up your spices why not try Italian? Or try adding some maple syrup for a caramel twist! Throw in some chopped almonds and dried fruit for a popcorn trail mix twist! Or why not go all out and drizzle is in some dark chocolate! Mmmmmmm.

The only thing I hate about popcorn is how god damn dangerous it is, once yo start... Trust me you won't stop...

Popping your corn!

Take your popcorn kernels and place them in a microwavable bowl with a tsp of water. Place a microwavable plate on top of your bowl. Place in the microwave for 6-7 minutes. The time will vary down to the microwave. Check all your popcorn kernels are popped before allowing it cool.

When it's cool toss your popcorn with the following oils and spices...

Spicy Chilli Popcorn

- 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
-1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

 Sweet Cinnamon Popcorn

- 1/4 popcorn kernels
- 1 tsp heaping cinnamon
- 3 tsp stevia
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp coconut oil

Serve and enjoy!
