Confidence Chat: Stepping Into The Gym


Knowledge is power. I think this saying suits the slot completely... Confidence in stepping into that gym.

More than likely if you're a complete, 'gym goer' you've got the knowledge of gym dynamics. Meaning you're a lot more likely to know what the hell to do actually do when you're in there. Meaning you're more than likely to be a lot more confident than a first timer. In fact to a complete beginner you might actually shy away from the whole place due to it being far to intimidating!! I wanna bust that theory. 

The gym doesn't have to be this big, bad scary place where everyone judges each other. It doesn't have to be a place where we constantly pick out all our flaws It shouldn't be a place where women are scared to head over to the weights area or men to the cardio, it shouldn't be a place where you fear failing but a place where you can grow, learn and support one another on our own lil journeys. 

First things first, no one is judging you, (yes I know easy to say, harder to believe) BUT they truly aren't! No one actually bothered about you! Every single person that walks through a gym door is usually fearing the exact same thing as you. Meaning the only person everyone is truly focusing on is themselves. Everyone is in a zone with their own bodies, their own workouts, their own days yet so many of us are also worrying what other people think. The truth is, no one cares! So focus on your own thing! 

Okay next, accept your mistakes. You're going to make them and that is OKAY. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or go to the gym 6 days a week! No one knows everything and we don't always get everything right. Sometimes we lift a weight that is a lil too heavy and fail, sometimes we get our form completely wrong, sometimes we do something that isn't what we thought and look like a complete muppet, or use a machine wrong, fall over a dumbbell (guilty) but hey we are only human. And you grow and learn from that and oh yeah, like I said, no one would have been bloody watching. So just move on! 

Remember with going and continuing comes the confidence and the knowledge. Everyone was once a beginner and it takes time and a hell lot of patience. I know it' kinda is like a viscous cycle... You don't feel quite confident to go or to use a certain machine or lift a weight or try something new however this doesn't give you the chance to show how capable and strong you actually are. The self consciousness slump hits. HOWEVER remember this... the more you do something the better you get at it. All you need to do is start.

The gym is a place to get stronger and healthier and if you're there with the main purpose to do so, then you should never feel out of place.

And at the end of the day not everyone is going to enjoy the gym! Trust me it isn't for everyone. And that is perfect fine too, being healthy, active and feeling good isn't about doing things we don't enjoy, but finding the things which we do! Yes, it's no doubt the gym is a brilliant source to do a huge range of workouts but if you prefer running out doors or hiking in the mountains or working out in your kitchen. That's great too! As long as you're feeling good inside and out, confidence in what you do will surely follow.

Like I always say... "Do what you love and love what you do!"
