Up Your Chia! - 3 Ways to Use Chia Seeds

07:24

Hi my lil chickpeas or today I should say chia seeds.

Tiny but oh so powerful and the star of today's post. I thought I'd try something a little different and give you some insight on the old superfood that is chia seeds and some cheeky ways to use them!

Chia are seeds are beneficial for numerous reasons. They're lil nutritional powerhouses! Packed with essential nutrients such as omega 3's, magnesium, calcium and potassium. Plus they're full of fibre and protein meaning they're a great way to keep you fuller for longer and to help aid digestion. When mixed with liquid these lil babies form and expand into little gel like buds, okay they aren't as scary as they sound... haha. And don't let you put that off!

Never the less you've probably bought chia seeds, hearing that they're 'oh so good for you' however have no bloody clue what to do with the buggers! Am I right? Mhmmm.

Well Holli is luckily here to save the day and give you some ideas! Then maybe you can actually get around to using them!

Chia Pudding

Yes, like I stated above chia seeds when added to liquid expand! Meaning you can make a pudding like texture with them. Simply combine chia seeds and your choice of milk with the ratio 3 tbsp chia seeds to 1 cup liquid and let this sit and soak over night. You can add your flavours of choice such as cacao powder, various fruits such as raspberries, strawberries, banana, protein powders, peanut butter etc. You can mix them up as you choose. It's a perfect breakfast to grab and go or switch it up for a healthy dessert!

Try my Lemon Match Chia Pudding  for some chia pudding love!

Chia Jam

Would you believe you can actually use Chia seeds to whip up your own healthy, homemade jam? Yep. You can use almost any fruit for this (strawberries and raspberries are my favourites)
Simply cook your fruit down in a small saucepan over a medium heat. Then stir in some sweetener such as agave or maple syrup, then add your chia seeds. Let this stand for 5 - 10 minutes until it begins to thicken, place in a air tight container and keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Spread or add to anything you fancy from toast, yogurt, porridge etc. Or my Protein Jam Drop Cookies! Why not treat yourself?

Sprinkle Them, Add Them

You can sprinkle chia seeds on almost anything to punch up the nutritional value! Scatter over salads, sprinkle over oats, add to granola, yogurt, throw into granola bars, on top of smoothie bowls. Etc. The list is endlessssss. I love to add a tsp with my oats or smoothies for an extra nutritional boost!
