Halloween Superfood Series: Green Monster Berry Burst Smoothie Bowl...?

I love the smoothie bowl trend there is no doubt about it, and oh I love a good green smoothie, any time and any day. It's a great way to get kids and adults to pack in there greens without even knowing. So what better time to have a green smoothie than Halloween? It's the time the ghoulish colour is acceptable right? I give you 'Green Monster Berry Burst Smoothie Bowl'

Yes hwllo green monster. This smoothie  is like a trick to your eyes and treat to your taste buds. There's one thing that makes this smoothie so spectacular and it's a hidden ingredient which transformed it! Ready... Frozen courgette!!! Say what? Yes the good old courgette (or zucchini, whatever ya call it) Trust me on this one, it's made the smoothie super thick not altering the taste one bit yet adding all of the wonderful nutrients from the courgette itself. they have a good amount of fibre, a high antioxidant value, high in vitamin C & K, high in potassium and is extremely low in calories being just 14 calories per medium courgette (yes bulk courgette with everything!) It also helps heart health, weight loss, digestion, strengthen teeth and bones and helps lower cholesterol. Yep it's my favourite veggie. You'd be a fool not to throw it in your diet.

This "Green Monster" smoothie recipe is a convenient and sneaky way to get even the pickiest eaters to enjoy their green without pulling a face. Really all the greenness within this smoothie is a complete disguise. It's combination of the strawberries and banana gives the tastes of a sweet berry dream. It's like a refreshing twist on something that tastes a lil like a healthy dessert.

It's packed with good carbohydrates and protein as I added some vegan protein powder which obviously is completely optional. I also threw in some spirulina powder which again is completely option however I throw this stuff into every smoothie, haha. No matter what this smoothie is perfect for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a quick healthy snack!

Ingredients (Serves 1)

- 1 frozen banana
-1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup frozen courgette
- 1 large handful of spinach
- 1 scoop protein powder (I used a vegan blend)
- 1 tsp spirulina (optional)
- Unsweetend almond milk
- 3 to 4 ice cubes
- Toppings of choice

Place all of the following ingredients into a highly powered blender along with the almond milk. If you want a thicker smoothie use as little liquid as possible, adjust the liquid and ice as needed. Blend together until full combined and a thick ice cream consistency (you might need to stop and move it about a few times depending on the power of your blender)

Once fully combined pour your smoothie into a bowl and top with whatever you heart desires. I love goji berries, desiccated coconut and bee pollen! Oh and sometimes a cheeky drizzle of peanut butter...
